TEA applauds the hard work of Tennessee's educators

The following may be attributed to TEA President Tanya T. Coats, a 27-year veteran Knox County educator:

“The Tennessee Education Association applauds the hard work of Tennessee’s educators, as clearly reflected in the 2023-24 TCAP data released by the Tennessee Department of Education. Academic growth across all student groups shows the dedication of Tennessee public school teachers, support staff, counselors and administrators who go above and beyond every day to ensure student success.”

“As we acknowledge positive growth in this year’s TCAP results, we must remember that they are just one tool measuring student achievement, underscoring the importance of focusing on the individual student, not the test.”

“Despite incremental progress on teacher salaries and insurance, many teachers still don’t feel supported in their work and continue to leave the profession in alarming numbers. As we prepare for the school year ahead, we urge education stakeholders to do everything to support our hard-working educators and invest in resources to retain and attract the best talent to Tennessee’s great public schools.”
